Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish
- the state or condition of being a fan of someone or something.
- the fans of a particular person, team, fictional series, etc. regarded collectively as a community or subculture.
We all know what fandoms are, and we're all in at least one. I can definitely say that I'm in far more than 10, but today I'm going to share the ones I'm most fangirly about. This includes books, TV, one game and one general topic. Also note that number 1 and 2 are concrete in their places, but the rest of my fandoms shift around on the list depending on how I'm feeling and how recently I fangirled them.
1. Deltora & Co
Emily Rodda is an Australian author who created my #1 all-time favourite universe… which doesn't actually have a canon name. The Deltora, Rowan of Rin and Three Doors books are all set in the same world but at different times and places. The books are junior fiction, but Rodda has an amazing talent that makes her books enjoyable for all ages. I reread all the books every 1-2 years, so when I'll definitely be reviewing them when I do. And to reiterate how much I love her books - I named my cat Deltora.
2. Harry Potter
Of course Harry Potter is going to be on the list. Like Deltora and Co, I could gush all day about it. If I could choose one fictional universe to make real, it would be the wizarding realm. Even if I was a muggle, or a squib - as long as I knew it existed, I'd be happy. But for obv reasons I would much prefer to be a witch ;]
3. R.J Anderson
Anderson is a brilliant author, who I first discovered when I read Knife. It's been a while since I read any of her Faerie books (due for a reread), but I read Ultraviolet and Quicksilver about a year ago, and she once again blew me away with her talent.
4. Tamora Pierce
Truth: I haven't read all the Tortall or Circle Universe books yet. Also truth: that doesn't mean I'm not 100% head over heels in love with them. Why? Because Tamora Pierce is a genius. She writes such strong, plucky heroines that are such a great role model for younger and older girls alike! The world building that went into the books is so extensive and absorbing. You'll be seeing lots of reviews for Pierce's books in the coming months.
The BBC series. Morgan and James will always be my 100% head canon for Arthur and Merlin. They are just so much fun together! Honestly I love the whole cast, but those two really stand out. You should watch behind the scenes things for them - it's absolutely adorable.
6. Terra Nova
Uhm, hello - dinosaurs! I was a palaeontologist in another life, and I still love anything prehistoric. Terra Nova was such a fun show, and I was so bummed it only got one season - esp. because that stupid cliff-hanger leaves me going ?!?!?! and googling to this day. I actually created a role play forum that I would love to get started one day (interested? Email me/comment below!)
I'm a little late to the party when it comes to BBC's Sherlock. I binge watched it in February. It is incredible. I just can't even put into words how much I love Cumberbatch and Freeman, but to have them together as Sherlock and Watson. I just can't even.
Castle is definitely my guilty pleasure, because helloooo Nathan Fillion. He's like a big cuddly teddy bear I kind of want to date. I loved him in Firefly (and do love Firefly) and I know that Castle is a lot more mainstream than Firefly, but like I said - it's my guilty pleasure.
The original Spyro games were my bread and butter as a kid. I can still remember hiring the game week after week from the video story (why my dad didn't buy it, I'll never know). I own all the original games, and 2 of the PS2 ones. Unfortunately it kind of lost its magic for me in the later ones. What I wouldn't give for a new Spyro game in the same vein as the originals. I replay the three originals at least once a year, and I'm actually due for a replay since I have a new (big) TV. Unfortunately I have to focus on literary wombat a bit before I can jump down that rabbit hole ;]
I love musicals, and I have so many favourites I couldn't choose just one. Some of my top ones include The King and I, Oklahoma, Hamilton, Easter Parade, Mary Poppins, Annie, South Pacific, Rocky Horror… the list goes on for a very long time.
So there you have it, my top 10 fandoms! What's your favourite fandom? Do you like to fangirl (or boy) about any of the ones I've mentioned? Let me know in the comments and we can gush about them together :]
